Dental Bridges Q&A

What are dental bridges?

A dental bridge is an appliance that replaces a missing tooth or teeth. It’s made up of a pontic, or an artificial tooth, and held in place by crowns bonded to your anchor teeth, which are the teeth adjacent to your missing tooth.

The dental bridge gets its name because it bridges the gap between your anchor teeth. It’s a popular dental treatment and offers patients a safe and effective way to restore their oral health and improve the appearance of their smile.

Why should I replace my missing tooth with a dental bridge?

There are many benefits to replacing your missing tooth with a dental bridge. A bridge improves your ability to speak with clarity, and it can also make it easier to chew and digest food.

A bridge improves the architecture of your mouth by preventing your teeth from shifting out of place and redistributing the force in your bite.

There are also cosmetic benefits to a dental bridge. Missing teeth can leave unattractive gaps that leave you self-conscious and hesitant to smile. A dental bridge fills those spaces and offers a renewed sense of confidence in your appearance.

What happens when I get a dental bridge?

It only takes two office visits for the team at Dental Renaissance to fit you with your dental bridge.

During your first appointment, your dentist prepares your mouth. This involves removing some enamel from your anchor teeth to make room for the crowns.

After your teeth are prepared, your dentist uses an iTero Element™ digital scanner to make a detailed impression of your mouth. The impression is sent to a specialized lab that uses it to custom-build your bridge so that it fits perfectly. Your dentist attaches a temporary bridge to wear for a couple of weeks until your permanent bridge is ready.

You come back for a second visit when the lab finishes your permanent bridge. Your dentist removes the temporary and seals your permanent bridge in place. You leave the office with a beautiful new smile and improved oral health.
