Invisalign for Plano, TX Families
If you would like a straighter smile, but hate the thought of having a "metal mouth," we can help. Advances in orthodontics allow adult and older teen patients to have straight teeth without wearing unattractive metal brackets using the Invisalign clear braces system. This system uses aligners that are virtually unnoticeable, but they provide the same results as traditional braces for those patients with misaligned smiles, including more severe alignment issues like over, under, and crossbite. If you’re interested in finding out more about Invisalign, contact Dental Renaissance of Plano to schedule a consultation today.
What to Expect During the Invisalign Process
With Invisalign clear braces, you can transform your smile without damaging your polished image. The Invisalign system moves teeth into the correct position with a series of clear, custom aligners. Made of comfortable acrylic, the aligners fit snugly over teeth, exerting gentle pressure to adjust tooth position. Treatment time with Invisalign clear braces averages 12 to 18 months, substantially less than traditional orthodontia.
The process is simple. To begin, your dentist will take X-rays and photos of your mouth. An Invisalign-certified lab will produce a complete series of aligners based on this data. Each set of aligners represents a point one step closer to the desired result. By wearing each aligner for about two weeks, patients’ teeth are shifted closer to the end goal. Then the current set of alignment trays is exchanged for the next set in the series. For optimal results, you need to wear the Invisalign clear braces most of the time, around 22 hours a day, but you can remove them for eating, brushing, and for special occasions.
Throughout the course of treatment, patients will need to visit our office every six weeks to two months. During these visits, we’ll examine patients’ treatment progress and make adjustments to ensure patients meet their end goal. These visits are much less frequent and shorter than traditional orthodontic checkups saving patients additional time over the course of care. Following the completion of treatment, patients may need to use retainers or other oral appliances to ensure the longevity of treatment.
Benefits of Invisalign
Like all treatment options, Invisalign is not the right solution for every patient. However, there are a number of advantages that make orthodontic treatments with Invisalign beneficial including:
- Save Time - overall, Invisalign treatment is completed in less time than traditional orthodontics, but patients also save time throughout treatment with shorter, less frequent checkups.
- Comfortable - traditional braces use metal brackets and wires to shift teeth. These metallic braces can rub against soft tissue leading to sores, and compared with the adjustment of wires to shift teeth, patients find wearing aligners more comfortable.
- Maintain Lifestyle - the aligners blend seamlessly into patients’ smiles and go almost entirely unobserved by others, and because the alignment trays are removable, there is no need to make significant changes to diet or oral hygiene.
