TMJ dysfunction and myofacial pain can cause debilitating, frustrating issues. Your jaw joints, or temporomandibular joints, control the opening and closing of your upper and lower jaws. When these joints experience stress, fatigue, or injury, the TMJ become misaligned, which causes irritation in the surrounding muscles and nerves. We will evaluate your entire mouth to confirm TMJ dysfunction. Then, Dr. Pollard or Dr. Patel will recommend the appropriate non-surgical TMJ therapy, which may involve an oral appliance to prevent clenching and grinding, restorations to rebuild your bite, exercises to strengthen the muscles, and over-the-counter anti-inflammatories to alleviate discomfort.
